Product Details

A Rajasthani tribal silver amulet depicting Saptamatrika or Sapta Apsara. The Saptamatrika were seven mother goddesses in Hinduism - they are accompanied by an eighth guardian figure, Bhairava, a fearsome manifestation of Shiva. Each mother is a feminine counterpart of a Hindu god. Their names are Brahmani, Maheshvari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Indrani & Chamunda.

These traditional tribal silver amulets come from Rajasthan and acted as protection charms. They are worn till this day on various parts of the body and sometimes might have been concealed in turbans, hats or clothing.

These amulets were made by hammering through a brass cast mold. Although high silver content, these pieces are not always sterling silver. These amulets can be worn with a leather necklace or a silver snake chain. This amulet dates to the 19th century.
